FAQ
What is Cinego, what films are available on it, and
who operates it?
- On Cinego, you can legally watch films online with various payment options.
The films were previously shown in domestic arthouse cinemas. The website is
operated by Mérőmókus Kft., and our catalog includes films from Hungarian
independent distributors. It is important to us that our catalog only includes
high-quality, award-winning films with the best possible translation, picture,
and sound quality. What is the difference between subscription, rental, and
download?
- We offer different pricing plans to suit different viewing habits. If you only
want to watch a specific film, we recommend choosing the rental
option (usually HUF900), which allows you to watch the film directly in your
browser for 30 days with unlimited viewing (however, in some cases, for a
shorter period in the case of festivals or legal restrictions). If you would
like to own the film, select the download option (usually
HUF1,300), which allows you to download it in MP4 format and keep it forever. If
you are interested in more than one film, we recommend that you choose the
monthly or annual subscription
option (HUF1,790 per month or HUF18,900 per year), which gives you unlimited
access to almost our entire catalog. With a subscription, you won't be able to
watch all of our films, but our selection is constantly growing. In addition,
with a subscription, you can only start watching three films within
an hour.
- What movies are available to subscribers?
- We try to make as many of our movies available to our subscribers as possible, but in many cases, due to different licensing periods, we are unable to make all movies available immediately. Sometimes you have to wait a few months for content to become available for download or subscription. Here you will find a list of movies available with your subscription.
What are the minimum requirements to watch movies on Cinego without any
problems?
- For a smooth viewing experience, we recommend using the latest version of your
browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and a reliable, fast internet
connection. If you are unsure about the requirements, we recommend watching one
of the movie trailers (this is free, of course), and if you can watch it without
any problems, you will have no issues with the movie. If you have a slower
internet connection, you can manually adjust the image quality in the video
player. In what format can I download the movies?
- When you download a movie, you will receive it in MP4 (h264) format with a
bitrate of approximately 4500 Mbps. You can choose between two image qualities:
1080p (full HD) or 720p (HD) with stereo audio. We recommend using the free VLC software to watch the movies.
Due to the size of the files, they are not suitable for direct download to your
mobile phone or TV. Can I pay for movies by text message?
- No. Our exclusive payment partner is Barion, and you must have a credit card
or Barion account to pay. We accept most major credit cards. In what languages
are the films available?
- Most of our films are available in their original language with Hungarian subtitles, but for children's films in particular, you can also select a dubbed version. You can switch between the different versions in the player.
How can I watch the films on my TV or projector?
- If you want to get rid of the HDMI cable connecting your computer and TV, the
site also supports Google Chromecast and Apple Airplay, so you can easily stream
movies from external sources. On newer TVs, you can also use Cinego with the
built-in browser. In some cases, if the subtitles are not burned into the movie,
they will not appear due to a Chromecast device error—we are working to fix
this issue.
- Can I use Cinego outside of Hungary?
- Cinego is primarily aimed at domestic viewers, as unfortunately most distributors only hold the rights to films in Hungary. We do have some films that are available outside Hungary, and these are listed in a separate collection, which you can access at here.
- I would like to give a film or subscription as a gift. How does this work?
- Use the Buy as a gift button on the film's page, or the Gift subscription button on the main page. Then pay for the selected service with your credit card, and you will receive a coupon by email that you can forward to the recipient or print out. The recipient can then enter the coupon code into our system and activate the selected service.
How can I cancel my subscription?
- If you have signed up and subscribed to Cinegóra, we will automatically
deduct the subscription fee from your account every month (or every year if you
have an annual subscription). If you decide to cancel the service, click on the
Cancel subscription button in your personal profile. I run a
film club or public screening venue. Can I screen the film I purchased
publicly?
- Our films are for home viewing only, and of course you can watch them with
your family, your partner, or even your cat or dog. However, this does not grant
you the right to screen them publicly (in a café, pub, outdoor cinema, etc.).
If you would like to organize a public screening, please write to cinego@cinego.hu and we will
put you in touch with the film's distributor, who can grant you permission.
What information do you process?
- Your data is safe with us, and we only store what is necessary (name, email
address, purchase history) and only for as long as we need it to provide you
with the best service. Please read our „Privacy and Data Protection Policy“
at /gdpr and our „Terms of Service“ at /aszf. Something isn't working, who
can I contact?
- If you encounter a technical problem, please send us an email at cinego@cinego.hu and we will
help you. In your email, please describe your problem in detail, including your
operating system, browser type, and the movie you are having trouble with. If
you are unable to view the selected movie, we will refund the fee.
